The Fab Four: Introducing the Four Founding Teams Taking the Field First in the WPBL

THE WPBL FAB FOUR

The countdown is almost over. The Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL) is ready to make history on Thursday, November 20th, at 8:00 PM ET—with its inaugural player draft.

This isn’t just another league launch. It’s the rebirth of an American legacy. For the first time since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) closed its final chapter in 1954, women will once again take the field as professional baseball players in the United States.

For athletes who have spent their lives waiting for a professional platform, and for fans who have championed the growth of women’s baseball for decades, this night is more than symbolic—it’s the beginning of a new era.

🧢 A League Rooted in Legacy and Built for the Future

The WPBL’s creation represents more than opportunity—it’s a restoration of the game’s full story. Since its founding, the league’s vision has been guided by pioneers like Dr. Justine Siegal, a trailblazer in baseball coaching and advocacy for women’s access to the sport.

Siegal and her team selected four cornerstone cities—two on the East Coast, two on the West Coast—each chosen for their storied baseball legacies, deep fan traditions, and major-market visibility

“These aren’t just cities,” Siegal emphasized in the official release. “They’re storied sports communities that have shaped baseball’s past and are ready to shape its future.” [1, 2]

While the league has not yet revealed the official team names or logos, each franchise’s identity concept has been described in vivid detail, giving fans a taste of what’s to come. The naming process, the WPBL says, is designed to honor each city’s culture, history, and spirit, creating teams that reflect their communities authentically. [2]

🧢 Beyond the Teams: Why This Moment Matters

Each of these cities represents a cornerstone of baseball’s past—and now, its future. From Fenway Faithful to Hollywood Dreamers, these inaugural franchises form the foundation of a league that could permanently alter the landscape of professional sports.

The WPBL’s founders made it clear that this launch is only the beginning. The league’s 2026 inaugural season will feature seven-inning games, a salary cap structure around $95 K per team, and a media partnership with Fremantle to ensure national coverage. More teams are expected to join by 2028, expanding the league’s footprint across the country.

With player registration soaring and former Team USA stars like Kelsie Whitmore, Mo’ne Davis, and Micaela Minneralready tied to the movement, the talent pool runs deep. For young girls watching tonight’s draft, this isn’t just inspiration—it’s proof that a career in baseball is finally within reach.

⚾ Draft Night: Where History Meets Hope

The inaugural draft will air live at 8 PM ET, streaming across WPBL’s official platforms and social media. Each selection tonight represents a first of its kind: the first woman drafted to the first professional baseball league of the modern era.

The league’s announcement summarized it best: “Four cities. One beginning.” [3]

Baseball history is being rewritten, and the women of the WPBL are holding the pen.
